We have a new student!! Mason Andrew was born Wednesday, May 21st weighing 8lb 8oz. We had a beautiful labor and delivery and I was cheered on by my hubby, sister, mom, and all three kids in the delivery room. Truly a homeschool day, and a day we will never forget!! 😉 Recovery has been difficult so far, but staring into his eyes and nuzzling his fuzzy head makes every single moment worth it. Th  More...

Hi mamas! I just wanted to come by here and share some joyful news and ask for prayer. We haven't made this public knowledge because my parents are out of the country and I have no way to contact them except by email and that is not the right way to share this news. Our family is expecting a new baby. I'm due in May and am still very newly pregnant. After a miscarriage before my last son, I wouldn  More...
Oh 3John4, I am lifting you up in prayer right now. 🙏 Prayin that the Holy Spirit would just carry you and remind you that nothing on this earth is as serious as it seems, because heaven is our true home. I'm glad that you shared this here! I appreciate that at the core of the point of homeschooling is mamas who love their babies dearly. I think it is so important for us to admit how hard this mom thing is sometimes though- there is literally not enough of us to go around, and that's why we have Jesus. It is so hard to balance the joy of children with the difficulties- and right now you are in a season of more difficulty and less joy, and it's okay to be sad about that! Sorry, that was long, but I love supporting other mamas :) ill be looking for updates from you! - MommyLuvs2  6.7 #8 9:22PM
I know all too well the difficulties in awful pregnancies, deliveries, and recoveries. I also lost a baby after my son. I know how hard an unexpected pregnancy can be. (My 5 month old baby was very unexpected). I struggled with it until I delivered him, and I praise God for him every day. When I found out I was pregnant, we had just sold our 7 passenger vehicle for a much smaller one. I had just started a new job, and we had given away almost everything that was baby related, as we thought we weren't going to have any more kids. It was Gods perfect planning that we now have our son. I had a lot of the same emotions, so I will be praying for you, your health, the baby's health, and for your family. - I-love-my-family  10.0 #7 12:12AM
Any updates 3john4? I hope you have been able to enjoy that precious new life growing inside you!! - MommyLuvs2  6.7 #8 8:00PM
Thank you so much ladies!! Your sweet words touch my heart. I tried going off the Zofran for the past 36 hours, but I was getting dehydrated again. So I'm back on it along with a couple other things and I'm able to keep some liquids and foods in. I'm spending most of my time in bed. My mom has been helping out a ton and has been doing some lessons with the kids (and I think she's loving it). My hubby has been amazing. He has taken care of so much, all while keeping up with his work schedule and adding in a side job. He hasn't complained once, to me. I'm praying that this Hyperemesis does go away sooner than later. I so want to get to the part of getting to be excited about this pregnancy and not just sick. I'm trying hard to remember there is an end date to this, and a pretty awesome trophy at the end. ;) In the mean time, my family could certainly use prayer. Thank you sweet mamas!!! - 3John4  13.0 #4 11:40AM

Confession time... I'm a homeschooling mom that can't seem to get the school day started. 😳😳😳 Lately I've been up at 8:00 (early for me, although hubby has already clocked 3 1/2 hours by then 😳). My problem is that I keep finding 'one more thing to do' before I get the school day started. I'd love to just get dressed, eat breakfast, throw in a load of laundry and get to school. That NE  More...
Can I just say, thank you, thank you for being so real!! It's "confessions" like this, that encourage the rest of us! For us, we'll be starting our year tomorrow... Can I just encourage you to do what works best for you and your kids! Your school work doesn't have to start at the same time traditional school starts for the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, or at the same time school starts for another homeschool family! I've learned over the last 10 years that each year is going to look different, and that's okay! Some years we have babies... Other years we have toddlers... Other years we have... It just all depends on the season your family happens to be in! Prayerfully consider the season you're in, and go from there! Make your curriculum and schedule work for your family!! Praying that you find the balance you're looking for!! Miss you, sweet lady!! ;) - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 4:16PM
I have the same issue. I have a 4 month old, a potty training 2 year old, and just starting kindergarten so most days we do homeschooling a few times a day, and it takes on a variety of ways that we get done what needs to get done. Keep up the good work! - I-love-my-family  10.0 #7 6:45PM
We start school around 9:00. Depending when my 3 and 1 year old wake up. I let my son (grade 1)have a short break around 10 or 10:30. Then lunch break at 11:30. I find that structure and a routine is important. After lunch I put my 3yr old and 1 yr old for a nap then I do reading with my son while it is nice and quiet. Try to make school fun too. Play math games, colouring pages, crafts, sing songs. For science we are doing an animal each month. This month is a polar bear. So we got library books and do activities and colouring page and a bullitien board on polar bears. Have fun but be diciplined in what you do. - schoolmom  3.2 #20 11:21AM

I am not sure I have anything helpful to add, but consider your purpose for joining a homeschool group and if those needs are being met elsewhere. Maybe start out with the activities you have and see if there is a need in a few months. - Mrs.mouse  20.2 #2 11:44AM
I am just starting my first year of homeschooling and I totally understand what your dealing with. I feel the same way. I would say don't try to do too much, and if it works out to do a group great, if not, it sounds as if your days are already full. - I-love-my-family  10.0 #7 10:16PM

Wow!! What a great find! Thank you for sharing! You are totally inspiring me to want to pursue nature studies more. When my older ones were little, and we had just started homeschooling, I did my best to incorporate that... However, I have fallen away from it, using the excuse that we don't have much "nature" to study where we live. But, honestly, when I made a point of pursuing it, we found plenty of opportunities! God's glorious handiwork is everywhere!! ;) Thanks again, for all your great posts! - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 10:32PM
I just went and found that they offer a free edition for Kindle too! It doesn't have the pretty illustrations that the copy you purchased has. Those are probably nice to have... But, I figured I would download it for free!! Here is the link for the free edition: http://amzn.to/Zl8UpS Thanks again, @3John4, for drawing our attention to this title!! - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 10:39PM

I feel like I've been posting so much lately, but I just read this and thought it was so good that I'd share. I recently started following this blog and I love it more each time I read it. I think @MPC mentioned it somewhere, and that is what got me following it (sorry, I don't remember where). Anyway, she wrote Sunday about Delight-Directed Homeschooling and I think it describes exactly what our   More...

Thank you ladies. Between being so passionate about this homeschooling venture we're on and my 'seclusion' these past three week on this mountain, I feel rather talkative. Just another reason I love this app so :)!!! - 3John4  13.0 #4 12:48PM

This makes my homeschooling mommy heart swoon! He want to try typing his IEW paper on his own. His sister paid me a foot rub to do hers (Andrew Pudewa said that's okay!!). Thinking we are going to have to add typing into our curriculum once we get that Internet service back. Anyone tried BBC Dance Mat? My daughter has enjoyed the first few lessons. ht  More...
How sweet! I love the look of concentration on his face!! We haven't done any typing courses... I'm going to take a look at this one your shared!! Thanks!! Love all you've been sharing!! - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 9:27PM
My kids really liked BBC dance mat and I think it is a very good start. Becca was typing without looking at her fingers within the first few lessons. - loveteachingmy4  3.9 #12 7:40AM
I'm going to have to look into the BBC dance mat!! I'm loving the new things that I'm learning about from you sweet mommies!! ;) - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 11:42AM
So far my 7 year old has really enjoyed it. I posted about it on a fb board and some mommies cautioned that there are some questionable cartoon characters in later lessons (maybe to do with witches or something like that - some families may prefer to censor). Just a warning, like I said, I have nothing but good things to say about it so far. ;) - 3John4  13.0 #4 12:52PM

Took a late walk today, thanks to the time change. Sitting by the lake soaking up the last of the sun on this beautiful day. We brought the kids nature notebooks and colored pencils. Luke was happy to just talk to the ducks, but the big kids each drew great pictures of the scene. Trying to keep troubles with the purchase of our new house in perspective. Final loan docs came in today to be signed (  More...

Studying his star charts and making notes about what's visible tonight. I'm thinking the telescopes are coming out. ;) Hope it clears up soon!
Yay!! How fun!! More pics from your telescope adventures, pretty please!? ;) - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 8:25PM
I'd love to!! Unfortunately, its not clearing up tonight. The guys had fun doing some book work and star charting instead. The telescope is taking up a huge part of our living room, so I know the next clear night it will be set up. I'll share as soon as I can. ;-) - 3John4  13.0 #4 10:20PM
The boys and I were looking at the stars last nite. We don't have a telescope so we just looking, but still, it's awe inspiring. We were using a couple different apps on our phone/ipod that showed the different constellations. My 4 year old was getting a kick outta seeing the animals or people show up on the app as it showed the full constellation. I'd love to get away from the lights and see more of the stars tho, there's just something about it that just leaves you in wonder! - BluRayn  12.0 #5 12:49PM

Just had to share our encounter with nature today. We were told about a Bald Eagle nest and today we watched either the mom or dad go hunting and bring food back to the nest for their two babies. I only had my phone with me, but he flew right over us once and I got a pretty neat photo of him. We are just loving the opportunities to observe God's magnificent world up here!
Here's a tid bit we learned... Bald Eagles are not very good nest builders. This couple was having such a hard time building a nest that their little ones wouldn't fall out of that a group got together and hired someone to build a platform in a tree for a nest to be built on. So now this eagle family has a safer home for their family. ;) I suppose we can all use a bit of help from time to time. We went out at sunset last night, but didn't spot any hunting going on. We did see a large hurd of white tail deer yesterday on a trip to Idyllwild for lunch. We've been watching the weather and are excited that some snow maybe in the forecast toward the end of the week!! - 3John4  13.0 #4 4:09PM
Oh my goodness, how perfect. God's creation is so amazing! What a beautiful blessing that God took the time to find you the perfect place to live in while you wait for your new home! Thank you for posting all your natural nature "lessons" - gardeningthroughtheseasons  10.6 #6 10:04PM
