How are all you homeschool mommies doing? I'm really looking forward to summer break. We still have a few weeks yet though.
We're hanging in there. We took so much time off this year with me being sick that we'll be schooling through summer. I should just say we're year-round because it seems to happen every year. It works for us. We'll just school around appointments and great beach days. - 3John4  13.0 #4 7:37PM

How are you all doing? Still organizing and planning? Or has your school year began? We are almost all done with the organizing and planning. My husband still needs to put up 2 or 3 shelves (to go over my kids desks.). Our school start date will be the first week of September (as it usually is.) I'm excited to get started with our new year. Are you exited? God bless you all! (The picture is  More...

Your kiddos are so cute! What a huge box day. I bet there was lots of good stuff in those boxes. No wonder you need more shelves. 😉 - 3John4  13.0 #4 10:12AM
Oh, and to answer your questions... We took all of last week off for VBS. I expected to start back this week (still schooling through summer), but every day this week we had something come up. I guess Monday will work. We have several weeks still of Bible and history left before we start our 'new' year. English and spelling would just continue where we left off, and were starting a new IEW program next year. I may just pick a start date, continue with our Bible and history and start all our other subjects new. I guess I still have more planning to do. 😉 There's some more organizing that can happen to make things run smoother. - 3John4  13.0 #4 10:22AM

Hi, Does anyone know of a curriculum or book for grammar... Looking mostly for grammar review not full curriculum. Hmm, maybe a grammar guide? Anyone used Winston Grammar before? Did you like it?
I just ordered Fix It from IEW. It's suppose to arrive next week, so I can't say much about it but I saw it at convention after reading about it, and thought we might enjoy it. Grammar is practiced by 'fixing' (or editing) literature. - 3John4  13.0 #4 7:43PM
If your looking for just review have you seen Daily Grams? I used Winston for the first time this year and was very pleased. Those cards really helped us parse a sentence. It would take more time than DG. - MeTimesThree  5.3 #10 10:50PM

How's all your next year planning going? I was disappointed that apologia did not have a student journal for biology. So I did a google search and found one! Yay! That's awesome! It's so nice when someone who has gone before us shares what they have already done. I've got everything for next year ordered and boxes are on their way here!!! I'm sure next week will be a fun one. I love new curriculum! I'll probably open the boxes, take a gander, then close them back up and hide them until we're done with year. ;) I do love box day!!! - 3John4  13.0 #4 10:44PM

Ok Sonlighters... I am looking at core 100: American History in depth and core D+E american history. Do you think I can do both in the same year? core 100 for my 7th, 9th, and 10th grader and core D+E for my 4th & 5th grader. I am praying! I do not what to be overwhelmed. I am also worried about writing... they really need to work on that next year.
Yes, I think you could totally do 2!!!! We are doing 2, and we are busy, but it is the best busy to be. For us with the little one and our family dynamics, we felt like we had to give up a few activities, but saying no to those good things, lead to a yes to some other REALLY good things. I definitely feel like my kids are loving the books, and getting ALOT out of these books. - gardeningthroughtheseasons  10.6 #6 10:58PM
@abidinginHim, I'm so glad that you got a good response here, and that you're excited about doing the D/E next year!! You're going to LOVE it!! - MPCteachesher6  26.8 #1 3:24PM
It's definitely doable to take on two cores, and I think the fact that they are both American History will help. You may even find that you want to share some of the RAs. I do think it's very challenging to get through the younger version in one year (it was 3+4 when we used it the first time), so even though I bought the condensed core, I still taught it over two years. It gave us more flexibility to add things when we really loved something, which happened a lot with that core. Those are some of my favorite books!! My 9 yr old has decided he wants to homeschool next year for 4th grade, and I think we're going to do D-E. I'm so excited about it! - emmelia  0.6 #139 9:41PM
