Would you all be interested in a "coffee break", here in the lounge? We could set a specific day and time, and even a topic... Then we can all meet here in our Teacher's Lounge to network, discuss, encourage, be encouraged, etc., REAL TIME!! The plan today was to get a couple hours of school done and take my grandparents to lunch. Instead my son helped my hubby and stepdad reroof the garage, my daughter helped me organize/laundry/clean/ and keep the toddler busy, then we made a special dinner for the hard working boys and we still got to spend some quality time with my grandparents and love on them. They didn't learn "academics," but More...

I am a homeschool mum who lives in England, UK.
I have 6 children 5 of whom are home schooled. My eldest being 18 and she was homeschooled too.
Homeschooling in UK has limited options as not a lot of people are doing it. So I thought I would branch out further afield for more ideas.
My children's ages range from 10, 11, 13, 14 and 16 years.
Thankyou for your friendly replies.
I will be looking through for different teaching ideas and also any recipe ideas anyone may have.
We have a large family of 9, myself, my husband, 6 children and my eldest daughters boyfriend too.

We dont really follow a strict curriculum but we use CPG books.
These cover a huge range of subject from key stage 1 - GCSE level.
UK is very limited with Homeschooling and also has a lot of negativity as people are set in their ways. But we dont follow the trend lol - nattynoo12

Seriously, rainy days are some of the best homeschool days in my book! No matter how hard the year is going, I've always thanked God that my kids are home with me on cold, blustery, rainy days! As I was waking down the stairs, I caught a glimpse out of our front window, of our neig More...
What a wonderful memory to keep at hand for encouragement during rough patches. I too am enjoying this weather and the different pace life has had for our family this past few weeks. It's been such a gift from the Lord! He knew just what our family needed and has been comforting me in ways I have been to 'busy' to let Him in weeks past (not sure if that makes sense??). Days like today give me pause to be extra grateful for my family. - 3John4

I love snuggly days!! This week all my boys pile in my bed after lunch and a morning full of school to have rest time while I read to them. We've all been enjoying it so much! Yesterday we have the fire going downstairs but we don't have any furniture in there yet (except boxes) so it's not as cuddly but definitely cozy! Thank you for sharing that memory with us! I've thought that many times through the years when my kids are still sleeping at 8 or even 9 or later if they really needed it or going through a growth spurt, instead of rousting them outta bed and off to school. I know homeschool isn't the best thing for everyone but I'm so glad it is for us!! - BluRayn

Roasted cabbage, slice a head of cabbage into thick 1 inch slices. Place on cookie sheet, drizzle with some olive oil, salt and pepper to taste. Bake at 350* for 35 min or until tender. Keep an eye on it, you may need to flip half way through cooking. - Mrs.mouse

This week is inspired by something I'm trying to do more. Eat healthy. Please share your healthy dishes and help others make healthy choices.
We like to get the little bags of salads from Sams Club, especially the Asian salad one, it's so yum! It comes with all the stuff in it, dressing, almonds, won tons, etc. I just cook up some chicken in the crockpot, then either cut it up or shred it and put on it. So yum!
Another thing we've done recently is chicken tacos. Just using a small corn tortilla that I heat up over the open flame, then add the chicken and a little salsa mixed with either sour cream or mayo. Super easy and quick and delicious!
A couple weeks ago, I got the book Trim Healthy Mamas and have been slowly making my way through it. Going to be incorporating it into our meals and looking forward to all the yummy foods! Once I do, then I'll have some more to add to this thread!!
I'm right in the midst of about 20 projects so my brain's going in all kinds of directions, but if I think of something else I'll pop back and let you know! - BluRayn

Confession time... I'm a homeschooling mom that can't seem to get the school day started. π³π³π³ Lately I've been up at 8:00 (early for me, although hubby has already clocked 3 1/2 hours by then π³). My problem is that I keep finding 'one more thing to do' before I get the school day started. I'd love to just get dressed, eat breakfast, throw in a load of laundry and get to school. That NE More...
Can I just say, thank you, thank you for being so real!! It's "confessions" like this, that encourage the rest of us! For us, we'll be starting our year tomorrow... Can I just encourage you to do what works best for you and your kids! Your school work doesn't have to start at the same time traditional school starts for the rest of the kids in the neighborhood, or at the same time school starts for another homeschool family! I've learned over the last 10 years that each year is going to look different, and that's okay! Some years we have babies... Other years we have toddlers... Other years we have... It just all depends on the season your family happens to be in! Prayerfully consider the season you're in, and go from there! Make your curriculum and schedule work for your family!! Praying that you find the balance you're looking for!! Miss you, sweet lady!! ;) - MPCteachesher6

I have the same issue. I have a 4 month old, a potty training 2 year old, and just starting kindergarten so most days we do homeschooling a few times a day, and it takes on a variety of ways that we get done what needs to get done. Keep up the good work! - I-love-my-family

We start school around 9:00. Depending when my 3 and 1 year old wake up. I let my son (grade 1)have a short break around 10 or 10:30. Then lunch break at 11:30. I find that structure and a routine is important. After lunch I put my 3yr old and 1 yr old for a nap then I do reading with my son while it is nice and quiet. Try to make school fun too. Play math games, colouring pages, crafts, sing songs. For science we are doing an animal each month. This month is a polar bear. So we got library books and do activities and colouring page and a bullitien board on polar bears. Have fun but be diciplined in what you do. - schoolmom

I love CHEA!! We brought the kids a couple years ago and signed them up for their kids camp. They had fun, but it was hard to get them there and then make it to sessions and then pick them up for lunch and drop them back... We had a great time, but (selfishly perhaps) I really enjoy going with just my hubby. I'm able to concentrate more, and its a great time together for just me and him too. I always feel like CHEA gives me the 'shot in the arm' I need to have the excitement for the next year. We've reserved the room at the Disneyland Hotel, and I hate to not share that with the kids, but I haven't decided if they'll come with us or stay with my parents again. - 3John4

Our telescope, my husband loves to teach the girls about the solar system. They love looking through the telescope.
Love it!!! My husband and my son each have a dobsonian telescope and we love spending time looking at the heaven. They joined the Riverside Astronomical Society several years ago. They do a lot of outreach to the public. There are a lot of great people in the club that are eager to share their knowledge with others. We find that our opinions don't always line up since we believe God is the Creator of the universe, but its given a few opportunities to share our faith. My hubby even has Psalms 19:1 printed on his telescope ;). They have a piece if property in Landers where they have a star party once a month, and they have meetings once a month at La Sierra University. You don't have to be a member to do either of those things. :) - 3John4
